My Perfect Digital Companion

Filed under: Uncategorized — korbek @ 12:58 am

I have been thinking a lot about what I would really like to see in my perfect Digital Companion, and well… Let’s just say I am quite the dreamer (at least by today’s standards).

Alright, on to the pipe dream…

1: I should be able to install any software on it that I choose. None of this locking down the device crap like with the iPhone. That was the reason I sold the one I had. It is a beautiful device, but when I spend a few hundred bucks on a gadget, I should be able to do whatever I damn well please with it…

I don’t personally care what the OS is on the device, so long as I can do with it as I please.

2: It needs to be stable. One of the frustrations I have with the Windows Mobile platform are all the soft resets necessary to run. Granted, this could be a direct result of desire number one above, installing any old thing on the device! But hey, I want it to be stable.

3: Lots of hosepower, memory, and a week long battery (chargeable via solar)… Nuff said!

4: Ability to use as a projector. Yep, we are currently able to do this, but I want it to be able to do more than simply put up a small screen in a dark room. I want to be able to watch my slingbox, or a video on the device in the daylight, and on a large screen…

5: Ability to print native on the device. Sure, you can get it to happen on your device now, but WHAT A PAIN!!!

OK, so these first few wishes are probably available today. The next desire(s) however may take much longer to happen.

6: Touch Enabled Heads Up Display. When selected, the HUD would take the place of the tiny screen currently on our little digital companions. IT would be so nice to pull out your gadget, flip it sideways, or press a button, and have the HUD magically appear.

7:Projected Keyboard/Mouse. When the HUD wished for above has been activated, a projected keyboard/mouse would also appear. You could manage your data with the HUD and the full size keyboard from anywhere. A bus, a coffee house, an airplane. Oh what a joy that would be… More opportunities to work! Of course, with the HUD, one could enjoy a movie on a long trip, and maybe not get any work done at all…

I know that you are saying, with the projector, you would not need the HUD. For me however, the HUD is touch enabled!!! How cool is that?!?

Now for some convergeance. I would really like to be able to…

1: Control my entire home.

2: Control all my media gear.

3: Control all my computing gear.

I think that covers most of it. What kind of things would be in your ultimate Digital Companion?

Post a comment!!!

That is all… Craig

New Reviews… Hopefully Soon

Filed under: Uncategorized — korbek @ 11:47 am

G’day Fellow Globilites!

I have been off the “Globility Grid” for some time now, and for this, I have no excuse. I have upgraded my DC (Digital Companion) to the SE xPeria X1, or SEX1 as some like to call it. I thoroughly enjoy this device. It has lots of power, a magnificent screen, and plenty of memory.

Anyway, back to the grist of the post. I have put a request into Phoenix Technologies to review their PhoenixFreeze product. I hope to hear from them this week. Also in the pipeline is a little app from www.Clearec.com called Mixx Mobile. This is a sweet little application that allows one to multi-track audio right on their Windows Mobile device! I will be doing a review of Mixx Mobile in the next week or so, and then hopefully Phoenix Freeze after that.

That is all for now.

Yours in Globility

Craig

Teleportation… An Idea That works!

Filed under: Uncategorized — korbek @ 6:48 am

But doesn’t work yet…!

I leave the house 4:45 and 5:30 each morning on days I have to work, go to Starbucks, do some school work, then head out to the job. Usually it is a very peaceful event, but lately there is construction on the highway I take. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Can ya feel the frustration!?! Since my wife uses the car to take the boys to the babysitter, I drive the motorcycle. I really enjoy the ride, except when…

It is too HOT (I live in Texas, so this is the norm) There are traffic backups (Yep, DFW Metroplex, usually traffic) And… When they are doing construction…

Here’s why. Whey they are doing construction, there is always loose gravel floating around in the air from cars that kick it up. Being on a motorcycle in that environment is like that duck in that old video game, just flying about, looking to get shot!!! Well, yesterday I was rolling along, and chunk of gravel hit the fingernail on the middle finger of my left hand!!! Of all the targets it could hit, it somehow got my FINGERNAIL! And yes, I was screaming, as I was cruising down the asphalt! At least I got to show off my boo boo to everyone (that was pretty cool!!!).

I wore gloves today…

So, here is the daily ponder…

What is the deal with teleportation? Is it really that difficult to figure out? Yeah, it is, but hey, we can put a man on the moon (or did we???), why can’t we beam around the planet? Those guys in Britain beamed some light from one place to another, what is the hold up!!! Teleportation, the ultimate in Global Digital Mobility!

OK, talk amongst yourselves, and stay mobile!
